Northern Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Association Inc.

NRM North is one of three endorsed regional natural resource management groups in Tasmania, and one of 54 in Australia.
NRM North was officially incorporated on 26 March 2003 with a diverse group of people from industry, local government, conservation groups, public and private land managers and those who have an interest or expertise in managing the region’s natural resources.
The Northern Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Association Inc (NRM North) is a regional organisation that draws together the collective aspirations and actions for the natural assets of the area defined as Northern Tasmania. NRM North brings people, organisations, information and investment together to ensure that regional priorities drive the management of our natural resources – to get the best environmental, social and economic outcomes for the region.
A skills based management committee is responsible for controlling and managing the business affairs of NRM North, setting and monitoring the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring that NRM North as an organisation meets all required areas of compliance.
There is also a team of professionals who support the management committee and work with the community of Northern Tasmania to support them in the management of the region’s natural resources.
Membership of NRM North
The membership of NRM North consists of Group A and Group B members. Unless specified otherwise in the rules and in all other regards Groups A and B members operate with identical rights.
Group A Members
Group A membership includes agencies and organisations representing relevant experience, skills and knowledge in natural resource management in the region. There is no limitation on the term of Group A membership however the Management Committee may review and recommend amendments to group membership to the Association at a general meeting.
Group B Members
Group B membership allows for individuals with relevant experience, skills and knowledge in natural resource management in the region, to be members of the Association. Group B members are appointed for a term of four (4) years and are eligible for reappointment.
Members of the NRM North Management Committee
Group A and Group B members of NRM North can nominate for a position on the NRM North Management Committee. Management Committee members are appointed for a term of four (4) years and are eligible for reappointment.
To comply with the Natural Resource Management Act 2002 (2009 Amendments) and the Northern Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Inc Constitution the NRM North Management Committee will consist of no more than 11 persons and no less than 9 persons, who together have experience and knowledge in the following;
Frequency of meetings
Group A and Group B members are expected to attend the Annual General Meeting and any Special General Meetings called during the year.
The NRM North Management Committee must meet at least six (6) times a year and all members are expected to attend.
Remuneration
Group A and Group B members do not receive sitting fees to attend the Annual General Meeting or Special General Meetings.
Management Committee members who are self-employed or not otherwise remunerated for attending NRM North Management Committee meetings, may claim sitting fees in accordance with the current NRM North Management Committee Sitting Fees schedule.
The remuneration rate for all eligible management committee meetings and activities is currently set at $198.47 ($350.98 for Chair) for meetings in duration of four hours or more. Where the duration of meetings is less than 4 hours, half the daily meeting fee of $99.40 ($175.49 for Chair) will be paid. Sitting fees are set at the discretion of the Association at each Annual General Meeting.
Where NRM North members have been given the delegation to attend meetings on behalf of NRM North, standard remuneration rates as outlined above will apply.
Eligible Management Committee members may also claim reimbursement for approved reasonable travel and other expenses associated with formal meetings and activities. Travel costs associated with meeting attendance may be reimbursed in accordance with the ATO cents per km reimbursement rate for the relevant financial year.
Fees
An annual Association subscription fee is payable by members of the organisation. Fees are:
Group A members - $20.00 pa
Group B members - $ 5.00 pa
Annual Selection Process for New Members
An independent Selection Panel assesses applications for Management Committee membership against the criteria within the Natural Resource Management Act 2002 (2009 Amendments) and any other conditions deemed necessary such as geographic spread and gender balance. The Selection Panel then provides a report to the Association at the AGM with recommendations for new members.
The NRM North Management Committee assesses applications for Group A & Group B Membership against the criteria within the Natural Resource Management Act 2002 (2009 Amendments) and any other conditions deemed necessary. Existing Association members then accept or reject the Selection Panel’s recommendations at the AGM.
