NRM North funds weed management to invest in your farm’s future

A total of $80,000 is available for northern Tasmanian farmers to tackle priority weeds on their properties, with up to $1,000 per hectare available for eligible activities. Applications for NRM North’s On-Farm Weed Management Incentive Program close Sunday 15 February 2026.

The program supports landholders to implement practical weed control measures that protect both agricultural productivity and natural assets. By reducing the impact of invasive weeds, farmers can improve pasture and soil health, safeguard biodiversity and enhance long-term landscape resilience.

Delivered as part of NRM North’s On-Farm Natural Capital and Market Readiness Project, the incentive helps farmers identify, manage and protect their natural assets while preparing for emerging sustainability and market opportunities, including carbon and biodiversity incentives. Controlling priority weeds directly supports these outcomes and strengthens the long-term resilience of farming operations.

Funding is available for strategic, climate-smart weed management, targeting declared, high-risk or emerging weed species. Successful projects will focus on reducing weed pressure, improving pasture condition, and protecting native vegetation. Coordinated weed control across neighbouring properties is encouraged wherever possible to reduce reinfestation and achieve stronger outcomes.
